Dr. Joyanta Choudhury

 

Joyanta Choudhury received his PhD in 2006 from IIT Kharagpur, India working under Prof. Sujit Roy in the field of Transition Metal-Tin Heterobimetallic Organometallic Chemistry. After two postdoctoral stints at The Scripps Research Institute in Florida with Prof. Roy A. Periana and at the Weizmann Institute of Science with Prof. Milko E. van der Boom as a Marie Curie International Incoming Fellow, he joined the Department of Chemistry, IISER Bhopal, India, in 2011, where he is currently working as Professor. His research group at IISER Bhopal works primarily on (a) developing new reactions involving “metal-NHC” intermediates for the creation of task-specific functional molecules, (b) circular catalysis with CO2, H2 and biomass-derived energy carriers toward alternative fuels, and (c) reversible energy storage and delivery.

Some of the research findings on CO2 conversion from his laboratory have been critically acclaimed through several commentaries, essays, previews etc. in leading popular science magazines and journals such as ChemistryWorld ((a) Helicenes are the ‘first true organic electrocatalyst’ for carbon dioxide reduction | Research | Chemistry World; (b) Taking the pressure off catalytic carbon dioxide conversion | Research | Chemistry World; (c) Ruthenium complex catalyses complimentary reactions | Research | Chemistry World), Joule (Metal-free molecular catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction - ScienceDirect) etc.
